What is a Safe List – Safelist – Opt-in list etc?

In simple terms, a safe list is a special email list whose members all have agreed to receive email adverts from each other. Upon joining, everyone has verified his or her membership; it is also known as or referred to as an opt-in list.

Will I receive a lot of mail from these lists?

Yes, you will and lots of it. You need to setup a separate email account(s) for subscription mail from these opt-in lists. How many emails you receive per day is dependant upon how many ads are posted via each opt-in list you join. Cries of Spam will not be heard. The fact that you have opt-in means you agreed to receive mail. Hence the word “safe” as in safe from Spam complaints.

Can I unsubscribe at any time?

Of course! You have the right to “opt-out” at any given time. Eventually you will be removed from their databases. Quite often immediately removed but it does vary.

How often can I send an email advert?

This varies from list to list based on your membership status. Of course the higher your status the more privileges you have. i.e.: Executive, Professional, Free/basic.

Can I get in trouble for Spamming?

No once again hence the word “safe” in “safelists”. Everybody has agreed to receive emails and they are sent from the safelist’s host server. These hosts have everything under control don’t worry.

Can I post whatever I want?

Not really, no. The standards of common decency apply to most opt-in lists. They do not allow any advert that promotes xxx-adult materials, abusive, sexist, racist, illegal scams, hate or foul language and also Warez (pirating software etc). Just common sense applies here.

How much do they cost to join?

They are all different. Most have a basic free membership with an option to upgrade. Also available are credit-based types that are totally free to join too, and you need to refer others to join to earn credits or just purchase credits. When a new opt-in safelist starts up, quite often they will offer free pro memberships to kick off with. Always keep an eye out for these.

Are they worth joining?

Yes! If you can write a catchy advert you will be amazed how many people read their junk mail. That is why nasty people dare to Spam, because email marketing is so powerful and it works.

How many lists should I join?

Recommend hundreds, the more exposure the better. A handful of lists will seem totally useless, then appear a waste of time. The truth is safelist mail does go into people’s junk email accounts, but the hits and sign-ups do come in cycles. We all check into our junk email accounts from time to time; it only takes an eye-catching subjectline and a good sales letter to achieve a sign-up.
